We’re excited to share that Dusk is evolving into a three-layer modular architecture, a major upgrade that sets the stage for faster integration, lower costs, and privacy-compliant applications at scale.
The new architecture consists of three specialized layers:
- DuskDS: consensus, staking, data availability, native bridge
- DuskEVM: EVM execution with built-in privacy (via Fully Homomorphic Encryption)
- DuskVM: privacy-preserving smart contracts using the Phoenix transaction model
Each layer is optimized for a specific purpose and powered by one token: $DUSK.
What this enables Dusk
This new architecture brings powerful advantages:
- Plug-and-play EVM compatibility: External apps can integrate using standard Ethereum tooling
- Faster integrations: Exchanges, wallets, and bridges can onboard much faster
- Lower maintenance: Modular codebase reduces complexity and overhead
- Seamless bridging: Native, trustless bridge between DuskDS and DuskEVM, no wrapped assets or custodians
- Compliance baked in: Dusk applications will operate under a regulatory framework based on the NPEX license umbrella
